During my free time I enjoy creating creature designs. I began this series with a prompt from Designing Creatures & Characters by Marc Taro Holmes, which asks for the reader to observe the skeletal structure of a creature and see how many different animals could fit over said skeleton. At first I focused on retaining the entire structure of a beluga whale and then eventually optimized it with components from its evolutionary predecessors such as Pakicetus, Ambulocetus and Rodhocetus. There are even a handful of creatures influenced only by the form of the skull. Ever preliminary sketch that I made was fleshed out in a series of more detailed illustrations later on, even adding supplementary notes about diet and behavior.
